Leanne is a family lawyer, mediator, collaborative practitioner, and parenting coordinator at Shafir Law. Her background presents a diverse combination of mediation, litigation, and education. She was called to the bar of British Columbia in 1997 and Ontario in 2004.
She worked within the Family Justice Service Branch of the Ministry of the Attorney General (BC), and as a family mediator in the Ontario Courts. Leanne has been a certified mediator with Family Mediation Canada (FMC) since 1998 and is also a certifying assessor for FMC, assessing and certifying new mediators seeking qualification from Canada’s only national family mediation organization.
As a private practice associate at a family law firm in Toronto (2004-2009), Leanne continued to solidify her command in effective negotiation, collaborative problem solving, and the court based process of litigation.
She was the inaugural director of the Mediation Clinical Program at Osgoode Hall Law School (York University) (2009-2012) where she utilized her skills in family law and dispute resolution to educate tomorrow’s leading lawyers in mediation and negotiation skills. As the Acting Director of the University of Toronto’s Career Development Office (2012-13), she worked with the law faculty, and legal employers and professionals in all realms of practice.
This combination of experience has led to the expansion of her practice to include collaborative family law, a process that allows separating families to resolve their disputes with dignity and respect.
